چکیده

New taxonomic, biological and faunistic data are presented for some species of sawflies occurring in southern Europe North Africa. Pamphilius mediterraneus sp. nov. is described from Italy (Sicily). It belongs to the alternans sub-group group. Taxonomy, phylogeny and host plants of some Abia sawflies (Hymenoptera, Cimbicidae).

We briefly review the taxonomy of Abia, and attempt to clarify their systematics by phylogenetic tree reconstructions inferred from three (nuclear and mitochondrial) genes of some West Palaearctic and Nearctic species. The main question which we asked is whether the distinction, made by several authors, of two genera within this group is justified. Based on the species here sampled, our results...

Checklist of British and Irish Hymenoptera - Sawflies, ‘Symphyta’

The superfamilies Cephoidea, Orussoidea, Pamphilioidea, Siricoidea, Tenthredinoidea, Xiphydrioidea and Xyeloidea are combined as one checklist section, as the sawflies represent a distinctive assemblage of phytophagous (except Orussidae) Hymenoptera. More than fifty years have passed since the publication of the final part of Robert B. Benson’s three part identification key to the “Symphyta” of...

The Eurasian species of Xyela (Hymenoptera, Xyelidae): taxonomy, host plants and distribution.

The 28 Eurasian species of Xyela Dalman, 1819 are revised based on material of ca 7,500 imagines including about 10 % reared specimens. Larvae of Eurasian Xyela usually are monophagous and feed inside the staminate cones of pines (Pinus spp., Pinaceae). Based on the reared material, on identification by barcoding and on additional collection observations, the larval host associations for the Xy...

The type specimens of sawflies (Hymenoptera: Symphyta) of the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, Madrid.

The type specimens of sawflies (Hymenoptera: Symphyta) housed in the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, Madrid, were examined. Lectotypes are designated and illustrated for the following 32 nominal taxa (preserved in the MNCN collection if not stated otherwise): Tenthredo acutiscutis Konow, 1908; Tenthredo aericeps Konow, 1907; Allantus albipectus Konow, 1907; Athalia bolivari Dusmet, 1896; ...

Spermatodesmata of the Sawflies (Hymenoptera: Symphyta): Evidence for Multiple Increases in Sperm Bundle Size

-We present the first survey of spermatodesmata (bundles of spermatozoa connected at the head by an extracellular ‘gelatinous’ matrix) across the sawfly superfamilies. Spermatodesmata occur in all examined taxa within the sawfly grade (Xyelidae-Orussidae inclusive), but are not found in the Apocrita. Using DAPI staining, the numbers of individual sperm per spermatodesm were calculated and the v...
